Plus it doesn't really get THAT cold here. Maybe for a couple weeks out of the winter. Pretty much the same here, but think "Caught out in a snow filled ditch in your vehicle that won't start" Oh for minimum of 8 hours. I got ya.

I think I might get those 10 packs of "Hand warmers" from Wally World. They're selling here for 6 bucks.

Merino wool won´t tickle, that´s why I use merino wool shirts when hunting etc. outdoor activities. Huh, didn't know that. I have often heard folks say get Merino wool items, but didn't know why, other than its good stuff. Devold, Aclima, Woolpower, etc. I use Devold. Good stuff!

I'm working on a "Winter" kit, more than I had last year.
I've got a couple of those "toboggan" or sock hats with the long ear flaps, Couple of all weather space blankets with hand pockets in two corners and a hood, gloves and some other stuff as I get around to it.

By placing a couple on your body it will help at least some. Maybe unlace your boots and put one in each boot to help keep your feet warm, seeing as how they will get cold first or faster than the rest of you.
