Hey dogs, during my run I was describing the mods that I have made to my 411, so now I'm getting around to posting the pics. I enlarged the choil with a dremel after giving myself a small cut. I went large enough that I won't cut my gloves if I use the choil. ![[Linked Image from i888.photobucket.com]](http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac90/bunnyslayer1/Mobile%20Uploads/2013-01-08_15-30-14_405_zps7664b187.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i888.photobucket.com]](http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac90/bunnyslayer1/Mobile%20Uploads/2013-01-08_15-32-30_727_zps5ee976a8.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i888.photobucket.com]](http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac90/bunnyslayer1/Mobile%20Uploads/2013-01-08_15-34-16_582_zps6727eacd.jpg) Without gloves it leaves a slight gap, but I think its perfet. ![[Linked Image from i888.photobucket.com]](http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac90/bunnyslayer1/Mobile%20Uploads/2013-01-08_15-32-57_985_zps5c336d7d.jpg) Then I decided to strip it. I left a little coating near the handle to prevent any rust from forming at the joint. It's just a user so who cares how it looks. I found that removing the coating made for a much thinner blade profile, which is fine by me. ![[Linked Image from i888.photobucket.com]](http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac90/bunnyslayer1/Mobile%20Uploads/CAM00098_zps60a8766b.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i888.photobucket.com]](http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/ac90/bunnyslayer1/Mobile%20Uploads/CAM00099_zps3769970c.jpg) [img:left]http://i888.photobucket.com/albums/...ds/CAM00097_zps9ab2bc61.jpg?t=1385739378 [/img] I've done some polishing to the sides of the blade, but its an ongoing project. I'd like to eventually get off all the machining marks.

Looks good. Now you have to replace the rubber handle with some exotic wood. Just kidding. The mudder is my favorite handle.

I don't have any stripped knives but on the carbon steels that I have that came with no coating, I used a wax mixture that I rub on: Equal parts linseed oil, beeswax and turpentine.
I melt the beeswax and stir in the turpentine then the linseed oil. My grandfather used something like that and for a hard-use knife, it wears well. Not a lot much oiling required afterward.

It is a paste. I have an M4 Spydie Mule that would rust from sitting with air tool oil on it.
I used that stuff and it seems to work pretty well.

I am in a sea blast area so the air is pretty corrosive. I use it on axes and machetes too. Only seems to come of on the areas that have been in a cut during use. I also use it on my chrome plated and oxide plated hand tools. They were rusting just from sitting in the tools cabinet.

I've heard of that before but have yet to try it. I have been using a thin coating of burts bees but that's a little expensive. Food safe though.

Interesting formula for your blade coating
