need some advice.
i'm wanting to send my deceased friends spouse and son some fishing gear. he always wanted his son to have good quality stuff to learn on but he's only 8 right now. i'm a bit disconnected when it comes to kids and i'm inclined to over do it.
so, do i send him the kind of stuff i would use and let him grow into it or do i get him something smaller and more for beginners?
Lazi, get him something of reasonable quality; the little "Mickey Mouse" sets with their plastic gears are cute...but junk! The more a child has to fight a reel the more he will grow unhappy with it. The easier you make it for him to use, the more he will be inclined to stick with it. That's something I learned with my own kids years ago.

If possible, get him a reel with a couple of ball-bearings, as it will be MUCH easier to use. After all, don't YOU prefer gear that is easy to use?!!!?
