Noob dog here....I recently bought a Muddy Mischief 6 and when I compared it to my Scrapper6....I prefer the Scrapper6! this ResipreneC handle is the Schizzle!...I prefer it 3x as much as my Micarta handled Mischief6.....and to be Brutally honest....the fit and finish of my Scrapper6 is like twice that of the Mishcief6.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
Now don't get be wrong as I'm talking mostly about a few "rough patches" on one side of the blade that's clearly visible....not that it matters Re: performance...the knife came razor sharp and I'm very happy with my Mischief6 too...
The worst I've done to either blade is try to hack away one of the reinforced 4-5mm edges of a big cardboard box (about a big tv sized box) to see if I could
deform/damage the edge.....
Needless to say I'm way impressed with this SR77 steel! Hats off to the ScrapYard Knife Company for one Incredible knife!

Andy, Thom says he 'feeds' his Scrapper old steel... He reckons it likes it! I'll stick to wood, rope and pretty much anything else in the way or that needs hacking up...

To think a Scrapper6 is similar money to a CS SRK (over here at least!)... Heehee, don't we know a good thing when we see it!

LF, my Scrapper6 cost on total of £78 on the door mat, the CS SRK from a good reputable supplier would be £63, a slight difference but £15 VERY well spent!

I like the ResC best as well (have early model sr, no sy models yet). Get your self a BattleRat and do a back flip... The Bowie looks promising as well. Besides the price, it was my preference for ResC over Micarta that kept me from getting a Fusion BM...

I like Res-C too, and although I realize that it’s very comfortable and stronger than any rubber-type knife handle out there, I wish it were tougher. When I got my first large handled Res-C Rat (BR) I took it out for some test chops. On one of my swings, I missed and a smaller (like pencil sized) branch that had been chopped (it was angled and pointy) hit the handle. It gouged a chunk out of it. Later I used my lighter to melt and fix it.

On another occasion in the summer I was wearing my BR in my cardboard/duct tape sheath and working in the back yard clearing and burning some brush piles from past ice storms. I got tired, and decided to sit down and take a break for a while. I sat down in one of those one piece plastic yard/porch chairs like you get at Walmart or whatever for like $7.

When I got up to go back to work, I noticed a deformation in the handle. It took me a minute to figure out what happened. I was wearing it in the sheath on my right side while sitting down. The sharp plastic corner of the right armrest was pressed against the handle as I was sitting in the chair. The pressure from my the width of my body was pressing it against the sharp edge. It wasn’t pressed very hard. (I’m not THAT big) That deformation is there to this day. You can see the pic of it below. I didn’t bother to send it back for replacement since it was not uncomfortable, and didn’t hurt the usability of the knife.

I do love Res-C though, and think it’s much more comfortable and shock/tempature resistant. It’s usually my first choice to do work with. Another thing I don’t like is that underneath the handle material, there is less metal in a Res-C than Micarta, so it would be somewhat weaker in comparison to a full Micarta handle. If I were going deep in the bush where it’s life or death and failure of any type is not an option, I’d want the strongest possible knife and choose Micarta. But anything else, I usually choose Res-C. Just a couple weeks ago, I grabbed my RM instead of the BR, because I realized I hadn’t used it since I got my BR.



As you can see, I’ve chopped some thick trees with my BR. (And yes, I chopped all the way through with just a knife)

Andy; you are right that the res-C handles are less 'steely' than Micarta but that just keeps the weight forward for chopping and has anyone ever actually broken the tang on a 'rat or Scrapper?? Thought not! Your BR is a beauty even with the lived in grip!

Question? On Swamprats and Scrappers with the RES-C handles are the TANGS drawn to make them softer (tougher)? I would think with SR101 or SR77 a drawn tang would be impossible to break (kind of like the diferential treatment on SR101) (maybe bend with enough force). Any one Know? Eric or Dan?
I have a Srapper 6 LE and would think it would chop up an wooden apple crate as easy as the card board box. When I first got into knives I chopped (cut) up two refrigerator boxes (four layer corners) with a 3" Gerber S30V Freeman without any rolling or chipping. It is a skinning knife and not considered tough. I think I'll stay away from concrete and bricks (and rebar), but that knife looks very tough.

Why thank you. I have TONS more pics in my link in my sig if you’d like to see more. It’s become much more worn. I’ve used it quite a bit since I took the last pics. I split a ton of logs at my Aunt’s house for her fireplace. When I get my Hawk ‘n Howler I’ll take some newer ones.


Don’t treat it with kid gloves. It’s a tough knife, and more impact resistant than SR101. I’ve several times been chopping and missed and hit a rock or my cement porch, with no damage to the very sharp BR edge. No problems. It just took some small chunks out of the cement. And if by some very small chance you’d happen to somehow damage the edge, it’s covered by the warranty, so you’re safe no matter what. You can’t lose. So go give your knife a good beating. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

For edc (smaller knives in urban setting) i prefer micarta or even cheapo zytle to ResC... just because the ResC grips clothing a little too much, making a fast draw unreasonable imo. But for larger choppers,... ResC is king.

I was taking down a large and recently dead Apricot tree a few days ago.. very dry, hard, dense wood. My M6 gave a brutal shock through the micarta handle, i can live with it, but she was brutal. My larger Battle rat (tan grip, same as your pics) was a pleasure to work with. Sure it bit harder and deeper into the wood (being a larger knife) but that also means i was impacting harder aswell, and the ResC ate up the jarring vibrations and such...

Ron a belated welcome to the yard! Scrappers are about as tough as (ANY) knives get.. You might chip it or possibly even the break the point off if you pry carelessly but I don't think any of us or even Cliff Stamp will EVER break a tang on these! Consider it nearly industructable..
