Thanks Skunk I haven't shot the shotgun or new pistol yet but the 17hmr does one hell of a number on a soda can filled with water.

My last two firearms acquisitions have been the two Weatherby shotsuns. I think I kinda sorta have a few bases covered.
1. Handguns....................... check
2. Shotguns/home defense.......... Check
3. Rifles for Social encounters....Check
4. Knives for running silent...... Check
5. Food........................... Check
6. Water.......................... Check

Perfect check on coms though. I am thinking of thinning the heard on both knives and guns its so hard to do though lol

My group is getting these, http://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-UV-5R-136-174-400-480-Dual-Band/dp/B007H4VT7Ayou need a license for most uses with it but there are the MURS freqs that are non license and it can scan almost all of the common channels/freqs

I am wanting something that takes AA batteries. It will set for months without being used and I would be afraid that if I got one with a dedicated battery that it would be dead or nearly depleted when it was needed most.

No it can be programed manualy just takes a bit longer, they make AA battery packs that allow you to use 6 AAs(already have them on the way).
