Don't know if this have been discussed but I was wondering if swamp rat and scrapyard uses the same heat treat? Maybe someone can give us some info on this topic. On the scrapyard web they explain heat treat but refer to swamp rat not scrapyard!? On the scrapyard site it says a 40 hour HT and on swamp rats they say 60 hour HT. Just interesting and would be nice to know a bit more.

Anton, WELCOME to the Yard! I don't think you will find much about the HT of the BusseKin blades. They're kinda closed mouth about it, as it's just ONE of the things that make their blades so outstanding and allow them to offer such an IRON CLAD warranty.
I'll try and find something for you and post it up in this thread. give me a few minutes but I might well already be something you have seen.

Cryogenic Treatment and the Penetrant Inspection they refer to Swamp rat, I'm just wondering if sykco's go thru the same treatments? Yes I've been on the forums for years, but no one have actually asked this before. I'm just curious. Maybe other people are 2?

If I can remember correctly, ALL the BusseKin blades (Busse combat, Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard) all use the same heat treatment for the same types of steel. Other than that I can't say. Now there may be variations of it, but basically it's all the same as far as I know for the same types of steel no matter which company uses it. I hope this helps you some.

Yeah most people that have a proprietary process won't speak of it. I just wonder if SR101 is a modified version of 52100. Cause it says, "Think of it as 52100 with added kryptonite." That leads me to believe its modified to Jerry Busses specs. If he's buying a large heat he can do that.

Esee/Rowen is another that's hush hush on what they do with 1095. Rowens 1095 is generally better than most peoples 1095 by a pretty good margin.

Yes, SR-101 is 52100 with Busse's special heat protocol. A few years ago, Ed Fowler of Blade magazine wrote an article in it calling 52100 a "wonder steel". I guess it's great for ball-bearings as well. smile
