I agree, it's tough to pick only three. So many overlap or can be used depending on the scenario.

Boy, tough one. Let's do two lists, one for general "Hunting/woods walking and another for End of the World.
Walkabout: 1. Wardog 2. 411 3. Swamp Warden
End of The World: 1. 1311 2. S5 3. 311
And as stated, this is not an Always these, but could change on a whim. Randy, just curious as to why the s5 wins out over the War Dog for end of the world scenario?

I am still "Old School". Carbon steel I know. Infi I haven't had that much experience with, only since I got the Wardog. PLUS I still fall back on the old habit of a wider blade is better. It's just a habit thing I guess.

BUT I do really like the Wardog thickness for an End of the World scenario, so it COULD replace the S5 Once I actually play with it some more. Oh and I really like the mudder grips.
It was a really tough call for me on the Wardog Vs. the S5. Again, I went with what I have the most experience with.

I KNOW it's a mental thing, but that narrow (Spine to edge) blade even though thicker than the S5 just bothers me. In my mind, even though I know better the narrower blade isn't as strong as the wider (again spine to edge) blade of the S5.
Hope that explains it for you.

1. Swamp Rat Ratmandu 2. Fällkniven H1 3. Scrapyard Elmax 340
Honorable mention to the ESEE 4 The RMD is my favorite Rat, and was my favorite 'kin for a long time. In the end I still preferred the S5 though. The S5 was my first Bussekin (from the original release).

That's a good question! I guess if I distilled down my own question it would be to use.

HOWEVER, I wanted to cheat the same way you did, because I break down knives into those same categories. I like the fact you have a small, medium and large for TEOTW. I've always believed in the blade trifecta. To follow your lead, my 3 Walk Around & 3 TEOTWAWKI would be... WALK AROUND1) Busse Leaner Meaner 2) Swamp Rat Warden 3) Busse Boss Street TEOTWAWKI1)Busse NMFSH (this will eventually get replaced by a Battle Mistress) 2) Busse ASH-1 Skinny 3) ScrapYard 411

tan/camo 9-11 Battle Pappy Bowie custom made by for me by Justin Gingrich Tom, You're clearly a big ol' blade kind of guy! Nothing small or medium on your list of favorite knives? Do you just appreciate a larger blade or is there some JYD#1 wisdom to share? I use to say, a lot, there are many things a small blade cannot do that a large blade can, but few things a small blade can do that a large blade cannot. However, after getting out and doing stuff other than feeding a camp fire I've found smaller blades to be more generally user friendly.
