In your shoes I think I would go the Safety Mutt, simply because it is only going to be available for such a short time, and because the Mud Mutt got such great reviews. I don't think it really qualifies as a 'small' knife and if you really don't like it, I'm pretty sure it's going to hold its resale value for a good long time.
