How long has it been since we've had one? Too long!

My Winkler belt knife and Gary's thread on hatchets and axes got me looking a little deeper in the closet lately.

To the left we have a SOG Fasthawk that I barely remember using that I'll put up against my awesome Battle Rat!

After 10 chops...pretty good!

Gets through at 15...nice!

The contender at 10...pretty close!

And breaks through at 14!

Went at it for awhile and they were pretty dang close the entire time! I think if I used the hawk more I would be more efficient and it would do even better.

'Course, breaking up smaller pieces is easier with the BR.

I laid pieces on their side though and the Fasthawk did ok!

[Linked Image from i432.photobucket.com]

I can't think about these tools without wondering about combat applicatons...here is a 45 degree strike...note the length of the big bowie strike and penetration of the Fasthawk- impressive!

[Linked Image from i432.photobucket.com]

Too bad the pic doesn't capture the hawks damage b/c it's impressive!

Was fun to get out and blow off some steam..work has stunk lately and I needed some outdoor time. Also shows me these small hawks bring a lot of bang for the size. Did bind more than the BR and I need to use it to improve my effectiveness, but I was impressed!

Now....after reading this...don't ya miss Horn Dog??!! Nobody does a chop off better!

Nice chop off!

I like tomahawks for thier simplicity and light weight, but they suck at splitting. So do hatchets, in my opinion. If you can't get it in one swing, then you usually have to start over. At least with a big knife you can baton it the rest of the way through the log. For me, the tomahawk is really only useful for delimbing. But I still like them.

That's why I like big knives. They're just so dang useful in so many ways.

A little sunshine!

That song reminds me of when I was stationed in Hawai'i. It came on the radio one time when we were driving to North Shore, and I'm immediately taken back to that day when I hear it.

They have moped gangs in Japan, and people actually fear them.

Not to cloud up our sunny convo, but here's a weird fact about the video and band....

The guy and girl who are hanging all over each other are BROTHER AND SISTER.

Yes, it's comical. They roll around in gangs of about 20, revving their little 2-stroke engines striking fear into the local population. Fear that these people can feel deep inside their souls.

I tried to attach a Wikipedia link, but the link isn't working for some reason.
