Yeah, I used to didn’t like the idea of a safe, as it would slow down my access to them
I have my loaded pistol in one of those quick release combination safes. It is fast to open as you put in a five digit code on the top (by pressing one of four buttons recessed in a hand shaped pattern) and the door pops open and a light comes on inside.
