Yes, sort of, but not a berm so much as keeping the area behind it from washing out. The clay when dry is very stable, but when wet from melting snow and/or rain it can flow like mud. As you can see the clay has all been reshaped from a slope into a flatter road so with no vegetation there to provide roots to hold it in place I have to improvise with the tree as "roots" to keep the clay from sliding down off to the right side of last pic. Then fencing was put up since then on the left of where the tree was buried. A lot of this is learn as I go with trial and error. The 1311 sure helps out a lot with these projects, and there have been a bunch of them.
