Haha, same thing here. Whenever Patty has gone anywhere by herself I just set here having withdrawal symptoms until she returns. Don't know what I would do without her.

Skunk the summary doesn't even show the evil parts. It is very likely to pass with only a week in session. I wish my wife could retire now. I would move immediately. If I retire now I will need to work after I retire. It's going to b weird working here for a few years then moving and doing the same thing all over again.

I know what you Mean Brother. BUT you got to look out for you and yours, no one else is going to. How long before your wife could retire? And could she get her Post certification moved to oh say another state?

She needs another year and a half. The problem is she needs 20 years for benefits here. POST can sort of transfer/waiver but she wants to retire retire. I'm not staying in this profession if I can help it. It's going to be hard. I love it and keep getting offers to work elsewhere. When I leave I need to leave it for good and do something else.

I just had a few projects I wanted to complete and some people I wanted to help develop to take my place and promote before I left. My next 2 years were planned.

Well like I said before, MAYBE you could get into Admin (Yeah I know, a dirty word for a street cop) or Training, firearms training to hold you over the next two years and that would be a workable solution for you. I DO know how you feel. My last few years in the Air Force sucked. I actually tried to get out at the 19 year mark (when early outs were allowed in my carrier field) but they wouldn't let me, so I suffered for another year but man was it difficult keeping quiet.

I'm too high of a rank to do anything but promote further. If this passes as written I will try to find a nice job in the normal world. I was looking forward to that anyway. Just not so soon and I like finishing stuff.

It's just that the thought of leaving something I have spent more than half my life doing is disconcerting.

I know what you are saying. I could have stayed longer in the Military if it hadn't gotten so political. That is why I didn't try go gain any rank. I was tired of all the BS and all the know it alls higher up KNOWING how things needed to be ran (yeah right). No bragging, just stating a fact. That is why I was always getting called into work to handle a problem when a certain Major was on duty. Oh did I say I was only an E6 and he was an O4?

Oh and MB, IF you are NOT ready to retire, I mean REALLY ready, they you aren't. You WILL know when it's time, no matter what you have to put up with at work from those appointed over you. MOST of the "Bosses" should keep their noses out of the day to day operations, and those that ARE smart will.

I got lucky. My time in Japan was working with and for some fine folks. The last 2.5 years were just about more than I could stand. Finally, we Got a new commander my last 1.5 years in and HE understood and overruled My direct supervisor. She never did like me.
