S7 is one of the strongest steels you can make a knife out of and for some reason all the knives are so [censored] thick they don't cut very well. The Dumpster Mutt is a good example. With such strong steel you could make them as thin as a mora and they would be as strong as your average survival knife and cut like a scalpel.
I wish Dan would at least make a 3/16th knife or a S7 SS4 which works incredibly well with a bit of edge reprofiling. The S7 can handle a thinner edge than most knives so why are we getting ones that are so thick they could be made ot of glass?

I would realy like a nice thin Hookguard that would be a lot better of a cutter and much faster in the hand as a fighter. It would be the perfect camp/fighter.

I guess that strength is being given priority over slicing. Personally, I would like any of them in 3/16" stock, even the Dog Father. It would still be one of the toughest knives around and would be quicker and lighter.

I feel the same way, it would be nice to have a Mutt sized knife in 3/16. Something that you could carry on a light day hike and not weigh down your belt.

I like my Dogfather and Hook like they are. I have plenty of knives that are great cutters, the Dogfather is a great chopper and indestructable even in the most ridiculous of scenarios. I also like the Mutt as it is, for what it was designed for (prying), but I would carry it EDC if it were in 3/16 and cut better. I'd like to see a small 3/16 carry knife though - skelly or not - 3.5" or so would be great.

I thought the title was ok and bound to get a lively conversation going! There ain't much wrong with the yards knives... (Apart from no INFI anymore!)

well the mutt is like... a door breaching blade so. its not really meant to be an edc. the scrapper 6 is a pretty good cutter though isn't it? well whatever. nothing is "wrong" with scrapyards. it would be cool if they did make one that was thin though.

None of the SY knives are great slicers, except the SS4 (IMHO). I have always thought these knives to be police & combat rated weapons, thus the all black blades/handles and thick blades for breaching and prying.

I have cut several steaks with various SY blades so they can cut well enough for me.

I see Unsub's title for what it is, a clever way to get us to post. I imagine such a title would get you flamed big time over on the Busse forum. There is nothing "wrong" with Scrap Yard Knives as they are. They are designed for strength, but not all of us need knives that strong. When I see the abuse that my 1/8" thick 1095 camp machete can take, I am quite confident that a 3/16" thick SR-77 chopper could take even more.

You may be right, Bruce. So far they have been beefy, but Dan may surprise us yet. We know some new steels are coming. That's kind of exciting to me. We don't know what the stock thickness is on the new steels he has found.

That is a heck of a prediction, Bruce! I hope we see some steel variety, as long as the SR77 comes back again someday I'd also like to see a Skelly EDC since there will "never" be any Micarta in the Yard!
