Serious ice storm here. Heard at least one major limb or tree come down nearby, something to do tomorrow. Emergency services is hot and jumpin' on the radio. Just lost power a minute ago, on laptop so I've got an hour or so of juice for it. Just an update here from the elemental war zone. Still raining, still freezing. Ice continues to accumulate. I went out to check our section of road and there was a crack of breaking wood perhaps once every 15 seconds. Including one tree that was right in front of me as I was coming back to the house. I imagine that scramble backward clocked pretty fast. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> The state road crews are out with snow plows and bucket loaders, pushing limbs off the road. On the next road up from us, there was arcing wires: I could hear the humming from a quarter mile, and that whole quadrant of the sky was lit up blue like lightning flashes. Still no power. I'm surprised the telephone line is still up.

Woah. Something BIG just came down. Whole house shook. Better go see what that was.

It's still raining. The temperature is starting to go up though. 32.6F at the moment. There are periodic mild breezes, which we certainly do not need with all the trees bearing hundreds of pounds of ice. Many more trees damaged and destroyed, including one massive old veteran alongside the pond that lost two big limbs so far. Still no power, and the phone still works, which tells me that the phone company designs stuff a lot tougher. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I stood for a while out on the steps (out of reach of any falling debris) just listening. It is awe inspiring to hear the ongoing massive destruction. Echoing cracks of overstressed wood, thuds, and the white noise of ice-coated twigs shivering. I don't even think Salem has power: there's no light pullution as per usual. We have a nearly full moon, so there's some amount of dim light filtering down through the solid overcast, but it is ... impressively dark out there.

I wish I had a good quality portable microphone.

A few trees came down yesterday night too. Some people are without power. Luckly my house weren't the ones...

We are going tho get blasted on the Oregon Coast here too. I just called to verify the boys are bringing the crab boats in for a break in the action. They moved pots ( traps) to deep water so running late. Hope you guys are OK out there in other parts of the world
