Felco 30s ive had them for 3 years all original parts. and i use them for EVERYTHING. they have aluminum handles which keep the weight down. they are anvil heads unlike the bypass style most ppl use. ive used every brand around and this is my pair of clippers!

Thanks !! I'll pick a pair up. I actually like using them while hunting- hiking- mushroom picking etc. We have to bushwhack here on Oregon Coast and they will come in handy.

man the power was out for 12hours last night and it was awesome! I love being put back a few hundred years. being a man of preparation i had everything all ready solar/dyno flashradio was charged as well as our dyno camp light. we always have at least 5gals of water on hand and enough cans to open a kitchen. I had my green photon on my keys and was ready to go.
only bad part is i heard alot of sirens. it was an island wide blackout. hopefully no one is seriously injured.
it also made me think how crazy it is that we rely so heavily on electricity. i could go on a rant but im sure youve all heard it before! alls well!

lighting hit some big hub, knocked out all the power except for one sub station which then had to drive the genny to the other stations. it wasnt as near as bad as the recent earthquake knocked out ALL the power. boy the stars look better at night with no light pollution!

We were out of power for a week and a day starting on the 12th, so... Yeah, being without power is nice in some ways. It really forces you to slow down and consider what you've got and what you're doing. You can't just throw a load of dishes in the automatic washer. You can't take a hot shower every morning or afternoon. You can't have the whole house lit up like midday. You have to be aware of what your heating situation is (at least here, where it was 20F most of the time and got down to 6F one night).
Adversity is also good for showing you people's true colors. It was nice to talk to daily acquaintances and discuss how they were doing, with real interest and sympathy. And I met several totally random people out looking for graywater, and talked to them too. Then you've also got the folks that slide down on the scale instead of up: there were several thefts of generators and other equipment reported...

I totally agree momaw, i dont know if youve seen the movie wall-e but it touches on the human interaction point. I have alot of elderly on my floor and made sure they all had lights and were safe. they had everything set, moreso than the kids my age! oh i did think of you right when the power went out.

I spent 23 days whitewater rafting and hiking in the GC this year. Very tribal conditions brought out the best in most everyone. It sure puts things in perspective. I have found that since I have been back I tend to judge things a lot more tribal ( so to speak), I bet Hawaii is beautiful

mcjhrobinson said, it also made me think how crazy it is that we rely so heavily on electricity. i could go on a rant but im sure youve all heard it before! alls well! This is a very big concern for me. Almost everything depends on electricity. Here, our natural gas heat is governed by electric thermostat. No electricity no thermostat, no igniter for the fuel, no heat, and at minus 20, that can be a problem. No electricity, no fridge or freezers, and we all know what that means! This year, we put a lot of food away by drying, and canning, so that's a little better, but not great. We bought a backup generator, so we are a little less dependent now, but still not great! Cheers

ordawg1 yup going off grid shifts your thinking. the GC is awesome! when we were there we met a nice guy who was hiking down to meet his friend who was rafting down from the green river(?) i believe. we hiked down S. kaibab stayed at brightangel then went up brightangel to the campgrounds half way up spent the night then hiked back up to the rim. AWESOMENESS!!!! I had a smile the ENTIRE way! congrats on that tan SOD too!
Hawaii is beautiful, only downside is you have to work too hard and rarely get to enjoy its beauty. Although it looks like our company might be getting a contract on Kauai (im on oahu) which is classic Hawaii beauty. Im also currently planning a sea-to-summit trip on Mauna Loa on the Big Island. all work and no play makes matthew a dull boy!
