I do like the looks of that Tenacious. Been carrying the RAT Model 1 a lot - but figured that the Byrd Cara Cara could use some pocket time, and pulled her out for today.

My knife collecting logic is based on the fact that it (usually) is cheaper than gun collecting.

same thing applies to the "no safe queens" mentality.

i have two FBMs. one will withstand anything i will ever put it through for longer than i will live. why do i have to use the other one? if i want a change, i have the dfle (like new), dfcg (sitting in the post office), rtak2(like new), and a bunch of khuks(chopper of choice, main users). all those poor, abused knives...shivering in my knife drawer.

To keep each other company! Their time will come. They'll all eventually fall into the hands of our children, nieces, nephews, or dear friends who will show them love. Nothing wrong with being a little over-prepared.

Plus its good for the economy. I'd rather dump the money into american steel that will last forever than a chinese plasma TV i'll be lucky to get 10 years out of.

that a new sig line Diceman? I'd love to play with some obsidian. not in a folder of course.

Thought I would mention to you guys, Bravo762 misunderstood when ColdOne locked down the folderthread he started. He mentioned it on ratchat. I pm'd him and told him he could talk about folders all he wanted as long as he kept it in this thread. I haven't seen him pop up though.

I usually prefer a slim fixed blade to a big brick of a folder but when I am wearing all the winter clothes that is necessary so you don't die on the way to the car here in Saskatchewan throwing the chinook3 in the pocket is no problem.
Even the big bricks fit in a pocket better than a fixed blade.

Folders are more socially acceptable just because people are more used to them being carried although the huge and wicked blades on my Chinook3 or serrated Police get some double takes.

I was thinking that the most low profile blade might be to carry a Byrd or Spydertool. People don't seem to mind a knife on a multitool and the blades on the Byrd tool is a LOT better than every other multitool knife. It is also one heck of a clever tool. I am pretty impressed with the steel they use on those Byrd knives.
It is the same steel as the Tenacious as well.

I have an Emerson waved plain edge Commander 150$ paperweight as well. I like the knife but it really is more of a fighter than a tool and my chinook3 does both just as well.

It was the result of some death-chat antics. Mag22/Evolute/CableM were talking Obsidian knives, and I was saying that I didn't care for them. Mike told me that Obsidian can take on an edge much sharper than steel, so I became interested - but having already said that I didn't care for them, they were giving me some guff - and I decided it was time for a new sig line!

Get Both! you know you want 'em If it is a folder, I'll try to snag one of the new rats. Otherwise I already have enough folders and Busse kin blades for 10 people The spydies hold their value really well just like the Busse's. I've got a few I paid around $40 for shipped maybe 8 years ago that I've seen go for over $100 in very used condition.

I might grab one of the new rats anyway if the steel is particularly interesting.

This has been my experience as well. I won't pretend to understand the mind of a non-knife-user, but my huge leatherman surge gets barely a glance compared to griptillian. I think SAK and multitools, anything where the primary function is not just as a knfie, are more acceptable.

Have you hugged your camp knife today?

Yeah my stryker and rookie get a lot of looks, even at a place where everybody there has a knife on them. I think its the shape of the stryker and the shiny serrations on the rookie. my G-10 harpy ALWAYS gets a comment of some sort. Right now i'm carrying a waved endura and a Salt 1. I've been trying to put some wear and tear on the H1, and nobody seems to notice it. I think its the bright yellow handle.

I think anything with a slipjoint is below the radar also.
