Same here, except it was only 20-25 feet away and hugging the crotch of a tree!
Deer hunting in rural eastern Kentucky a few years back...no deer to be seen so I opened up my Thermos and was sipping coffee under a large black oak tree.

After 20-25 minutes, I beagn scanning the treetops (out of boredom) and jumped when I saw a huge furry head looking down at me.

He/she was there eyeballing me the entire time and remained perfectly still!

I must have moved quickly to reach down for rifle as this beautiful cat dove out of the tree, hit the ground and rolled head-over-tail 3-4 times before it took flight.

It was in the next county before I could disengag my safety and to this day, I am so happy that I didn't have the opportunity to kill it.
