I thought if Busse was going to make a knife like the HC it might use a new brand name to avoid some of the controversy.

How about some tests on things that really matter with these knives like edge retention?

If I have to choose a nice little fixed EDC I would much prefer the HC to my YKCG.
Now if I am going out to the bush or need an entry tool I would choose the YKCG.

My current favourite fixed EDC(Before it went to Ontario for new pants anyway) is my 52100 Spyderco Mule. It is very thin and could not take a fraction of the abuse an HC could but it is one of the sharpest knives I have ever owned.

I am sure Scrapyard is not going to stop using S7 or stop making knives like the YardKeeper and the S6. Them adding a different style of knife to their inventory does not hurt those who like the tough dogs it just adds some choices.
I would have prefered a more exotic steel to 154 but I do prefer the stainless to S7 for a small EDC knife.

Come on guys lets see some edge retention tests. It will be quite a while before my Muppy gets here and I can do a cut off with my SS4.

I don't think there is a thing "wrong" with the knife in 154CM. It's a great knife in a very good stainless. But it doesn't seem to be as tough as some knives I've tested in SR101, SR77, 12C27, or INFI. I must say in all honesty that this was one tough piece of oak. Whether this a a fluke or typical, I cannot say. I just use them and get what I get. Sure takes and holds a great edge, and that's what a knife is for. I would not recommend doing my point test on the 154CM knives. As you know, I don't ever deliberately break knives, but sometimes it happens.

First, I am sorry that the tip broke. Second, you are correct that 154CM is not SR77. People become so used to the high performance nature of SR77, SR101 and INFI that it is expected of all steels. Third, This is the very reason we warrant our knives the way we do so you are not left holding the bag or in this case a broken blade.

Thanks for clearing that up, Dan. I was treating the little HCLE like an HRLM or DM, and it is definately a different kind of knife. I very much appreciate the fact that the Swamp and the Yard are offering stainless alternatives. They will be excellent little slicers. And that warranty is the best in the industry.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I missed seeing you at the Blade show, maybe next year. I had hope to induct you at the dinner... we did have a good time. There were a lot of Dog's Hogs and Rats talking steel, I am still in recover mode...the older I get the longer it takes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Had it not been for my daughter's graduation, I would have been there, Dan. I have three years until the next one graduates, so look out Blade 2009!
