I am buying a battle rat. it has a black blade and tan handle. I here these are through hardened. I imagine for use in an outdoor enviroment I will never notice a differnce from it to a differntialy tempered battle rat and with the warranty I don't need to worry about. were the different battle rats different prices? was there a purpose in making the through hardened blade?
thank you for the input. I am excited, this will sodt less than a dfle have better edge retention.

I imagine the Battle Rat in a fantasy environment, fending off dragons and gremlins and the like.

The black/black BRs were like $150. The black and tans were a limited run from a ganza for $118! I beat my black and tan hard as I could. It'll hold up to it just fine. Just don't do like I did and get stabbed by it.

i got my BR a month ago or so.it handle much like the DFLE nad feels a bit lighter and quicker in the hand as well as being about a 1/2 inch shorter and yes,it will have better edge retention.

black bade/tan handles BR's are the through hardened one with the black handle/black blade and tan handle/satin blade BR's being differentially heat treated.

i dont know which color combination BR came first.i can only guess the through hardened one came first and the diff heat treated ones came after only because the diff heat treat is obviously an improvement and its not like swamprat to take a step backwards in quality or production.

the whole diff heat treat thing does get in ones head for some reason but in all reality should never become an issue.

i really think both versions are way more knife than a human being could ever break unless they set out on a mission to break it and even then they would need mechanical assistance to really break the knife imo.

of coarse i would prefer a diff HT but i'm not going to loose any sleep over it,i will not treat the knife any differently and i will not notice any difference in performance and/or strength

i like my camp knives to be a bit bigger than the average and i find the length, weight and feel of the BR to be the ultimate camp knife

No worries, Andy Wayne. I cut myself with an Umnumzaan twice on the same day I received it and sliced of some more of myself with the NMFBM just yesterday. Cuts not quite as deep as yours, but deep enough to require a bit of pressure to stop the bleeding. Knives and cuts go hand in hand!

Goodness, Mr. Wayne. You do lead an exciting life!

Next time you get your knife stuck, try this maybe? Lay a small split of wood on the block, crosswise, so that the grain is running left to right in front of you. Put the point of the knife on this block, and grasp the handle with your left hand so that the knife is parallel to the ground and supported on both ends, with the obstinate chunk of wood hanging off it. Use your baton to pound on the piece of wood so that it's driven downward off the blade. Watch your feet.

Zah? Are you have a go at me? I get suspicious when praise is effusive. I apologize if I'm wrong. Tone of voice is difficult to read in text sometimes.

No, no. I am truly impressed. No harm, no foul, just good old-fashioned respect for a true outdoorsman .

I liked the first version of your post more. Fair enough then, your praise is accepted at face value. I should probably get that paranoia looked at one of these days.
