My Bog Dog is 4 5/8" of blade length and the 3/8" it is missing to get to 5" is the difference in the mudder grip. If you measure from the ricasso forward I bet there is almost no difference between the Bog Dog and the Scrapper 5.

I concure. When I measure mine from the top of the Mudders, I get 4 5/8".
If measured from the bottom of the mudders, I get 5.0" on the nose.

I don't know how dan is measuring or even if S5 means 5.0" (?????)

The Bog Dog is one of the most under-rated Rats out there but I don't know of anyone that has one that doesn't love it. If the Scrapper 5 is similar it is a winner.

I am not so sure I would say the Bog Dog is under-rated. I think it has just not been a subject of discussion much because it is so long past. As you say, most everyone I have heard discuss it has loved it.

I think the S5 is destined to be a winner - even if I would personally wish for a couple of minor tweaks.

The square choil and the thumb ramp add some visual interest and I would say that the Scrapper 5 is more aesthetically pleasing than the Bog Dog.

While I appreciate visual interest, I MUCH prefer function. I still prefer the guard/choil arrangement of the Bog Dog.

I actually think the blade shape and grind is more aesthetically pleasing on this S5 than the Bog Dogs anyway. But, I still prefer the Bog Dog's guard/choil.

Something else I just noticed, it appears that the S5 has a full convex grind, with a very subtle secondary bevel, and that is nicer than the full flat on the Bog Dog. Man I can't wait for this knife. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

+1 Agreed. So it appears to be convex (????) - which I LOVE and prefer over the flat grind. But, I don't mind flat grind. I just don't really care much for hollow grind on most of my knives.

I like it....as long as it's not 154CM ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

What's wrong with 154CM, pitman?

I'm just not into stainless steels Vic,no matter what anyone says they are more brittle than the equivalent high carbon steel ( lets see a dogfather made of 154CM bent in a vice like the famous pic ) I also like to see my knives get a nice aged look to them through use! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

This thred is off and running. There are gonna be 1000 orders for this blade!

I'm with knife guy in wodering if this is going to dethrone the king of the 5" blades-Ratmandu!

I hope my SS4 doesn't get jealous!! I love that blade, it's great, great carry size, slices and dices...this just looks like another really special blade.

I'm pumped. And I think I see Horn Dog weakening!!!

Vic I couldn't agree more! CG in SR77 (or SR101 KG <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ) and LE in 154cm. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Ummm... I am OK with 154CM, but yeah, I would probably lean a bit towards prefering SR-101.

But, in either event, I thought it was well known I ALWAYS prefer SATIN!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I wonder if busse could give 154cm a differential heat treat that could be bent in a vice?

I can see a where DF might be better in S7, but a Scrapper 5 should be fine in 154CM. Besides, I don't normally put my blades in a vice and bend them with a cheater bar. I have put the MPLE and SMLE through as rough a test as I would with any knives that size, and they have come through just fine. As wet as it is in BC, I would have thought that a stainless scrapper 5 would have appeal to pitman, but I guess not. Am I the only one here who still sees 154CM as a premium knife steel?

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.
