L4D - I would go ahead and see the movie, if you like science fiction at all. My brother, who is absolutely NOT a star trek fan, enjoyed it thoroughly.

My son and I just saw the new Star Trek film yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a long time Trekkie my expectations for the performance of the new cast were somewhat low. I'm happy to say just how wrong my assumptions were. My son, who knows very little about Star Trek said he very much enjoyed the movie. He hates science fiction in general describing it as "lame". And I, the 50 something Trekkie liked it very much because it did manage to fit the Star Trek genre incredibly well despite the many differences with past movies.

We watched Star Trek in a new digital theater (TI DLP projectors) in Missoula, MT (of all places!) and both the picture and the sound were simply extraordinary. The sound of the starships going to warp was like cannons!

Minor spoilor alert!

I liked it a lot. In my opinion it is the best summer blockbuster so far. I also saw Wolverine and Terminator and Star Trek was far better than both of them. Now we just have to wait and see how G.I. Joe, Transformers and Harry Potter turn out.

One of the main questions that came to mind while watching Star Trek was "If that's a Romulan mining ship what does a Romulan war ship look like?" OMG, that thing was scary looking.

I thought that it was good on almost every front, except having the audacity to basically wipe Vulcans off the universe going forward. It creates a logical imbalance to things forevermore.

I am just looking forward to the next one.

Hopefully they don't go too long in between, but it will probably be 2.5 years or so, based on Hollywood.

Transformers is a better movie in my opinion. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

That is too funny! They were pretty heavily armed for a mining ship as well!

You don't usually see a Romulan warship because they're cloaked!
