I'm also jealous you're in the north west (or close enough!)

Utah's nice for outdoors stuff, but I miss backpacking in Washington state.

I'm planning a week long backpacking trip this summer in the Uintas. We're hitting King's Peak (the tallest in Utah for those who didn't know) as just ONE stop on the trip.

I wish it was tomorrow, but glad it's not.

(I still need to drop another 20 lbs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />)

Sounds like quite a hike Joe. I would be interested in what goes in your pack for that long a hike.

Maybe a separate thread down the road.

You got it. The closer we get I'll do a whole series of videos before, during and after (ok, maybe not "after") the trip.

I'll post a pack list then as well (mostly because I'm still refining it.)

One of the guys I'm going with has hiked all over Utah for a billion years, so I'll be referring to him a lot.

I've done week long, 65-75 mile hikes, but not since almost two decades ago!

Look forward to it Joe!

What kind of physical conditioning are you doing?

Sorry for all the questions but I plan on doing Half Dome in Yosemite next summer and I need to get myself prepared physically. I figure I should give myself 6 months to get ready.

Thats some serious hiking 65-75 miles. I know I couldn't do that

What kind of physical conditioning are you doing?

Right now I'm working on dropping a few pounds first. But I try to go on day hikes or weekend trips as often as I can. On day hikes I pack extra gear so that the weight will aid in my workouts.

The best thing you can do (which is my next step this spring) is to go on several 5 to 10 mile trips where you're hauling 30-40 lbs. Back in Washington we would climb peaks like Si, Pilchuck, St. Helens and even Glacier Peak.

Never did Rainier. I wanted to (most of my buddies did), but missed my chance when I was younger.
