It is a pretty drastic change.
Nature really is weird, surprising, and extraordinary.

ive always wanted a SG! just look so [censored] cool! best price i can get is $900. i can get the PRS for $300, Godin $525-625. godin is probably the best quality, sg the best investment, prs the least risk.

Mag, have you ever considered making your own guitar, to have it exactly the way you want? yeah. truth be told, if i find one good piece of wood it wouldn't be that hard. the problem is there is no "one guitar." sometimes you need a hammer, sometimes you need a wrench. all different. if there is a "one guitar" i probably already have it. i have some killer guitars. i have to thank you for asking. responding to this question has brought to mind the fact that i'm not looking for a new main guitar or an investment, but something different from what i have.

Even if there is no "one guitar", you could make several ideal guitars for yourself. You could make your ideal hammer, and your ideal wrench.

IN that case, I say get the Godin. ugh! in my previous post i was almost convinces to get the PRS. If the Godin is the best quality, then I'd say that is what matters. Investment and risk are rather irrelevant. Get the best tool for doing your craft and your art the best possible. Play that thing until it is trashed. Don't think of it as an investment, think of it as your music maker. Think of it as a tool, like the hammer and wrench in your previous post.

Imagine if I was shooting a Leica rangefinder film camera, just because it's the best investment and the least risk– even though it is a poor choice of camera to suit my needs and uses.
That would be silly.

the godin is also very unique. they're made in canada, no big stores sell them, and few famous artists use them. this means they have to sell based purely on their own merits, not endorsements.
i don't know if photographers buy cameras just because their heroes use them, but i'm convinced most guitarists have no ear and just buy whatever crap their favorite artist is endorsing.

Unfortunately, the same applies to photographers.
