Missouri Used to have a law that you applied to the Sheriff's office in your county for a Permit to purchase (notice they didn't call it REGISTRATION permit) where with all your regular info you also listed the make, model, cal and serial number of the weapon (some places didn't require this weapons Ident information, makeing it what we called an open permit. It was good for 30 days and when someone walked in to get one, we ran them throught the computer locally, state and federal and if nothing was found the had it and were out the door in about 10 minutes.
