It depends on how many people will be wearing packs. One of my favorite larger 3 day packs isn't expensive. The Kelty Redwing 3100. Internal frame. I paid about 50 bucks for mine. That wa a good deal. I will be looking for a new Kelty soon. How old are the 6 in the family, and what sizes are they? Maybe they all can have a pack, you know done to the appropriate size of the person. I am assuming two adults and 4 kids?

So far, only my wife and I would really be hauling gear. Our oldest is 11 and could help some, but my thought was to have two duplicate bags with enough for three people each--if my wife and I get seperated, at least we can still function independent of each other.

Anyone else have Dual Survivor on? They are going too far this year. So far they cut themselves, used fire on themselves, and now these guys are in MT with the one in socks and shorts--IN WINTER. WOW.

Good idea. The 11 year old, boy or girl? Might help if the 11 yr takes some of the more needed non-essential.

I have the runt carry a camel back with her mess kit, jacket, some snacks, a favorite toy and of course water. It gets them used to at least carrying some stuff and it clears area in your pack.

Sumo I am watching it right now. If it is remotely truthful Cody would be hurting from frost bite. But A biffalo hide blanket is really some warm stuff.

11 year old boy could haul gear--my fear is having too much stuff in too many areas, we're liable to leave something behind if we are really in a danger situation. The more bags to grab, the more it adds to the chaos.
