Last camping trip I was splitting 11" logs with the Regulator. I found a new way of batoning.

People kept offering me a hatchet, I was much faster with the Regulator!

A splitting maul might be faster but I prefer the knife to a hatchet as well. Seems faster for me.
What is your new technique (if your willing to share your secret)?

So you need a hunk of wood for the baton, not a little stick but something that fits in the hand. If you can find the natural splits in the log thats a good place to start. Think of the log in thirds put the knife on the edge of the log and hammer down on the spine (your tip we be close to the center) turn the log over and do the same on the bottom. Find three places around to do this, and it falls apart.

I always get crap about fire starting. I'm the only one in my group who wants to have everything ready and plenty of wood. everyone else gets the small combustables throws gas on it and lights. Then they wonder way the fire sucks.

This last time wood was scares. I told people to grab some logs but they laughed because they were wet(very wet) and said they would never burn. Someone even through one on the fire to show me.

Well those wet logs got split and set by the fire to dry. guess what everyone shutup when those wet logs were keeping us warm
