Always a good idea to check/reefresh your first aid kits, and emergency kits as well.

Was rummaging around (OK, Pilfering, as Patty calls it) in my gear container and buried in one of the packs I found my Military issue FAK, still in their vacuum sealed packages! One package is your everyday Boo boo kit. The other is a more comprehensive kit. It has scissors, bandages, nasal tube (forget the name of it) and lube, and an assortment of items for MUCH more than an ordinary minor first aid problem. I SHOULD bre able to just read the label of what is inside and duplicate it. THAT will give me my First Aid Kits! Oh I am sure I will supplement it and all and later on I will list in this thread what it includes, just for more ideas for us all.

Otay Butt Wheat, found the "Contents" list on my military IFAK. Here is the list and I hope You dawgs will chime in with any additions or deletions you think are needed. As a side note, I will be referring to Gary's list VERY heavily.
MINOR FIRST AID PACKET Lip moisturizer (1) Triangular bandage (2) Rehydration salts 1) Purification Tablets (10 pack) Skin marker (1) Bacitracin ointment (3) Bandage 3/4 X 3 inches (10) Bandage 2X4 inches (5) Safety Pins (4) Field Medical Card (1) First Aid Instruction sheet (1)
TRAMA MODULE Quick Clot Sponges (2) Bandage kit elastic (2) C-A-T- tourniquet (1) Bandage, gauze, cotton (2) EMS shears (1) Nasopharyngeal airway (1) Adhesive tape, surgical (1 roll)
I have this on my phone as a list that I can check off as I get it. ANY additions or deletions Y'all come up with will be a big help to all of us.

To think that our Individual First Aid Kit in VietNam consisted of a single thick gauze bandage with three feet long ties, kind of like a Kotex with ties. They were to be used in the event of serious gunshot or related wounds.

Once I get all this stuff I need, I guess we will have to buy a vacuum sealer so I can seal it up nice and tight.

I could probably find a sharp rock to cut the plastic with.

I emailed a list of My Military IFAK kit to a friend of mine that knows about this stuff and he said it looked pretty good but would add the following:
Lube (for nasal ... hard to get in dry) ACE bandage Duct or 90mph tape (wrap it on a business card) Germ-X wipes or a small bottle of sanitizer (1 additional) CAT (small) Israeli bandage (1 or 2) H&H compressed gauze Aspirin (heart attack) Benadryl (allergic reaction) Loperamide (diarrhea)

OK, I just saw something called a RATS Tourniquet. Anyone had any experience with this and what are your thoughts about it compared to a standard or normal C-A-T tourniquet?

Alright all you dawgs, a friend recommended this book to me for inclusion in a GHB or BOB. What do Y'all recommend?
The Survival Medicine Handbook: A Guide for When Help is Not on the Way by Joseph Alton
I have what many consider the obligatory book, The SAS survival Guide but haven't looked at it in probably 6 months or longer. I should remedy that, but I don't remember all that much first aid in it, although I could be wrong.
