I'm betting a candy bar or beef jerky.

I'm kind of scared to wear any scents, since I hunt on the ground. Don't want a buck getting the wrong idea and sneaking up behind me.

I only use a pine scent or rotting leaf to cover up.

That could well be it. We had a neighbor throwing out sweet rolls and donuts for the bears a couple years ago. I'm glad they moved out, there was WAY too much bear activity in the neighborhood to suit me. They usually stay much farther out of town.

I had a big ole bear get cocky with me this spring. We have a trailer park that refuses to use bear proof containers. And we have a ton of bear problems. We got a call for a burg in progress and it was a bear knocking on the door. Well we scared him and two other off. One of the others was about a 450 boar who decided he didn't like me looking at him and started puffing up walking towards me. I yelled at him and he backed down. He is an agressive one. We will end up having to shoot him if he keeps getting fed there.

Folks just don't realize they are WILD DANGEROUS animals, not overgrown pets.

Oh and I might add that I don't think Gentle Ben is alive any more. Besides I think He was in Florida!

It's a wonder we don't have more bear trouble around here. Up in the northern end of they county it's pretty heavily populated by Black Bears. Lots of people feed them because "they're cute!" If only they knew.

I like to watch them but I never trust them

I'm just glad that Black Bears aren't really aggressive. Most of the calls we get about them are trash can raids and such.

We have a big problem with bears breaking into houses in the spring and fall.
