Patty and I both have laptops. We also have a dedicated desktop computer. The only thing I can think I would use it for is a book reader. Based upon this it probably wouldn't be worthwhile for me to get a tablet, but a reader, maybe. If you are interested in a reader, get a Kindle Fire. It is a great little machine that is easy to look at (for reading at extended periods of time) and does many basic apps like Netflix.

Patty has looked at getting me a reader but I'm still on the fence about the whole reader/tablet thing. I can use my laptop to download books. I will probably just use the laptop. For me the reader would probably be a waste of money.

For me the reader would probably be a waste of money. I gave my mother a Kindle a few years ago for xmas. She loves it. She is a book junky and doesn't have to drive to the book store anymore. She gets the ebook before they show up at the store for cheaper now. It took some training to get her to understand the machine, but now she will punch you if you try to take it from her.

Kind of the way I thought of it as well. I would probably read more if I didn't have to pay 8-10 dollars for a paperback!

My mom likes the Kindle since she can change the font size. She is old and and it is easier to see large letters. She can read without her glasses.

Get the ...
Basic Kindle if you want an ebook reader - $80
Kindle Fire if you want a great reader and movies over wifi - $200
Nexus 7 if you want a decent reader with tons of apps (movies, games, data, heavy stuff) - $250
iPad if you want a decent reader with tons of apps and need cellular coverage. (4G) $400+
