I actually like winter. I like the way the trees look as you gaze out through the woods, leafless. You can see a lot farther and anything that might be out there can be seen easier. I just don't like the STRESS imposed upon us because of the holidays.

I actually like winter. I like the way the trees look as you gaze out through the woods, leafless. You can see a lot farther and anything that might be out there can be seen easier. I just don't like the STRESS imposed upon us because of the holidays. I'm not a winter person. Especially as I've gotten older. I used to be able to take cold weather, but not any more.

Well it's actually one of those "Things" that are not really in the mainstream of English speaking peoples. ??? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> ??? What is? Meaning that not everyone will know what it means here either. It's I think a more Average/working class expression.

I just don't like the STRESS imposed upon us because of the holidays. The stress is created by the marketing forces trying to get people to consume more by creating needs and expectations. I´m glad we have the opportunity as free men to spend our Christmas holidays just the way we like to spend them, not in the way like we are "expected". Gathering together with my loved ones is the best way for me. I like having and giving presents, buts it´s not the main purpose.

Christmas especially has become SO commercialized and the "Reason for the Season" has been shoved into the background. It IS about family and sharing, NOT Gimme Gimme Gimme.
