You can't go wrong with an Imbel, they are built by an FN licenced factory that still makes FAL rifles. Of all the receivers out there I probably have heard of the least (think very very few) that related to an Imbel receiver and what I have heard was always a very easy fix. Bearing in mind this always relates to building demilled rifle "kits" up on a new receiver, so people are getting right in there with the nitty gritty. SAR48 (Springfield Armory) are Imbel factory rifles sold under the SA banner.

Never heard of a SA FAL. Sounds cool

It is just a Brazilian Made version of the Belgian 50:00 FAL on a type 3 receiver. The plainest but most easily fabricated of the standard Belgian types.

My mind's made up, I just gotta sell some steel! I'll have a few on the exchange tomorrow.

I have always wanted a Match grade M1A, and will some day. But through the years I've managed to acquire a AZEX/IMBEL 50.00 FAL with an 18" barrel and a SIG Sauer 716 Patrol.
The Fal just seems to feel more satisfying in hand. It is accurate enough, 2-2.5" groups(Leupold Vari-X III 1.5x5), but to be fair I have never really worked up a serious accuracy load for it.
The SIG is 1 1/2 lbs. lighter and is capable 1 moa (Vortex PST 1-4x) now that I have put in a better trigger.
It would be hard to choose one over the other but it would be more practical to grab the Sig for serious business.

I've been looking at the vortex pst. How do you like it?

I like it a lot. I chose it for its glass etched reticle that can illuminate, range and use holdovers. The optical quality is pretty good for the price range but the magnification change lever has more slop fore and aft than I think it should. Ill be keeping an eye on it, to determine if it should be returned for that. It has a no condition lifetime warranty.
Another scope in that class that I chose for an ultra light walking varminter AR15 is the Burris 1x4x24 Fullfield TAC 30. Both scopes are good values.

Look at the Hog Plex 1-4x illuminated. I have one and am more happy with it than I was the PST Vortex.

I have the money together, now I just have to find the right rifle! I've decided to go with the FAL, most likely inch pattern. I'm getting more and more excited about this.

Ahhhhh ..... you are CLEARLY a man of great style. class and taste. The "Inch" pattern rifles are really an evolution of the FAL. The differences to the original rifles are generally considered as improvements. The BHO, Mag Release, folding charging handle etc are all better than the originals (IMHO). The folding CH was of course used on FAL rifles as well. The only thing on Inch rifles I am in two minds about (still) is the higher sight plane vs most metric rifles (though some use the same). The folding rear sight is 50/50 with me, great if you decide to use optics of some description however.

I've had some much needed help from a certain FAL guy of the Australian persuasion.
