One paper left this semester... and two final exams. Almost there!

And I thought learning to tie the lanyard knots was hard but it pales in comparison to the book keeping required apparently.

I am watching Barry Lyndon on history on film. It is a great film done by Stanley Kubrick(Clockwork Orange).

It has lots of dueling in it and the show on before it was a doc about the last duel fought in Scotland.

In the last Scots duel The arse who started the whole thing and was very rude and obnoxious was also a trained soldier and crack shot while the poor guy he challenged was a linen dealer who had never fired a gun in his life but he did have the guts to show up. The challenger was such a jerk he had a heck of a time finding a second but a guy fro his old regiment agreed only so he could try to find a way to prevent it. The challenger was to stubborn and they met at dawn ,the challenger tried to cheat by aiming before the count but they stopped it and started over and the challenger was shot dead and the good guy was completely unharmed.

The poor guy was charged with murder but he was found not guilty in a a matter minutes and lived another 35 years and had 11 kids ,one of whom married the nephew of the man he killed.

I would like to see a return to dueling in order to settle disputes.

Having worked on the 2nd one for weeks and then realizing at the last minute that my argument was bunk, and starting over thismorning - was very stressful!

One of the advantages to society with dueling was people were politer to each other. It also seems a lot less painful to take a minor stab wound than deal with lawyers. Still people abused that system just like people abuse the system of justice we have now.

I'd have to get some more range time in if that were to become common practice again..

Wow this movie has an intermission.

I thought a few period blades might be appropriate.
Some people look down at fencing foils and smallswords but they are the most deadly blades ever designed foe one on one fighting. A samurai facing a skilled duellist with an epee would most likely find himself full of tiny holes.

Think of the footwork involved in boxing? Now imagine if you only had to land one punch to kill an opponent?
