Somehow things are working out a little backwards for me here???? ....
You're not alone in feeling that way, KnifeGuy. Fit and finish seem to have taken on a lot more importance than they used to have. I can remember a time when Dan was called "Dan the Hack" because his fit and finish were secondary concerns. He only cared about blade performance and little else. . . His philosophy was simple, if it didn’t affect the performance of the knife, he didn’t bother spending any time on it.

http://scrapyardknives.com/intro.htmWhere did "Dan the Hack" go? And will he ever again build those incredible "maximum performance to price ratio" knives that attracted me here in the first place?
Unfortunately, I am not surprised about increases in pricing.
Demand is high and supply is terribly low.
Simple economics.
However, it seems to me that they could ultimately make more profits with higher volume (more availability). And it seems they should be capable of higher volume.
Higher volume would help us ALL!
