As far as the original topic I feel batoning techniques qualify.

I don't think you have to worry about the handles of your knives Andy but if I was stuck out in the bush I would be more carefull. The theory is that since the handle is above the impact the pressure goes down and misses the handle.

I think the SS4 would make a great bushcraft blade. It is the right size and is tough as hell with a terrific handle. All it needs is the leather sheath with the firesteel pocket and your ready to bushcraft.
