Ah-HAH! Dropping by the yard to see one of my favorite threads...
A Kalamazoo 1 piece body Les Paul w/ P90's is in the air coming my way at an insanely low price - to be used as a theraputic study tool.... Its coming out of my book fund for law school.
It started life in Kalamazoo as a Gold Top - but had a very good looking refin to a burst, knocking about 70% of its value off, so that it is no longer a collector's item and can be easily afforded by players. Pups aren't original, nor is the bridge, one pot has been replaced, and the tuners aren't original - all things that I don't care at all about, but make it worth even less, which is good for me. Its had a refret done, and sports the first 3 piece neck (much stronger - and weeks or months before the volute was added). Newer P90's have replaced the stupid mini humbuckers of the era. Most all of the stock guts are intact other than the one pot. This is a very unique instrument, made during some crazy times at Gibson, and cost less than many of us have spent in 5 minutes on INFI binges - and less than a new mass produced Gibson (and this baby is vintage!).
And it has original bumble bee caps:
And sports the Transitional (non rocker) neck tenon - this would be one of the first to use it, and one of the last before the short rocker tenon. For those history buffs, this baby was made right after Norlin's hostile takeover, but before any major changes. This beauty was literally days or a couple of months from having a pancake body. In fact, her SN shows w/ Gibson that she should have had a pancake body - but at such a hectic time of negative change, they still had to use up the rest of their good components as well. And she got one of the best bodies ever! Luckily she didn't have a one piece neck, or the collectors would have been swarming to have her refinished and flipped for cash.
