The most tactical outdoors gear that I own, asside from my knives, is my thigh rig that I keep my survival junk on. It really works, and holds the knife in a great position for a quick draw.

I typically hike in BDU's if its dry out, but if there's even a hint of rain I'll usually layer my golite rain pants and long underwear under the BDU, or just switch to a synthetic hiking pant (typically REI or mountain hardware). In general, cotton is terrible for hiking clothing, but it does have a nice strength/price ration. If I'm ever backpacking or doing anything remotely technical, its off the the quick-drying pants for me. As a rule, any shirt I wear while working and/or outdoors is synthetic. I'm a big fan of softshells because they have the advantage of fleece warmth but don't collect the burs that are so ubiquitous in my neck of the woods.

Have you hugged your camp knife today?
