Very nice pics, Gideon. You've given me some great ideas.
You are most welcome. I did a lot of research on the web, both here and on bladeforums and one day just decided to do the convex edge. I wanted to build a strop that would take sand paper, then just thought about the sanding block - much easier and it has clamps to hold the paper. I wanted to buy a cheap blade and practice, but then thought what the hell.
I took the sanding block and just ran the blade over the soft rubber for about 15 minutes, both sides, just to get the muscle memory correct and then put the sand paper on. No problems. Just watch out for too much pressure and keep the angle small. I barely lifted the spine - maybe about 10-15 degrees. I started with 320 grit to shape the convex, then 600, 1000 and 2000 girt followed by the strop with black and then green compund. Once the edge is formed, it's easy. Just use patience and keep at it.
