Well, I've been to several different bases here in Canada, and it's a little different.
In the Canadian Forces, The Air Force bases have the best food and quarters, hands down, no one in our CF will argue that.
The Navy have cramped quarters, and so-so food, but no one complains because they're either drunk or still hungover and don't give a [censored](Little jab at the anchorheads! LOL).
The army is massive here as well, has the worst food, hands down, and the worst quarters. Most of the buildings were built during or just after WWII, and they feel it when you're freezing your skin off in the winter!
I've been in eight years, and seen 4 different army bases, and every one of them was varying degrees of disgust, and I'm pretty easy-going when it comes to my food. The only reliable good thing was the salad bar. I've been to two air bases, and felt like I was being treated like a visiting dignitary. If I didn't like what was neing served on the food line, they'd offer to grill me up a steak or burger. And you could buy a beer in the mess to drink with you meal! I couldn't freaking believe it! Haven't eaten on any Navy bases yet, but heard many reviews that it's hit and miss, depending on what base and which cook is on shift.
