Do you think I have too many knives, or not enough. I got some new knives I hadn’t taken pics of yet, so I thought I’d do a new “family” group shot. This is the first time I put all my knives in one shot. I had them laid out on my bed, then I had to stand on a chair, holding the camera near the ceiling to fit them all in the frame. Good thing I didn’t slip off the chair. That’d suck falling into a bed of knives.

I took my DFLE out of the sheath, and found it rusting! Ack! I had slathered it with mineral oil before putting it in the sheath. I know you’re not supposed to put them in the sheaths, but I thought it’d be ok. I need a peg board or something like ColdOne. Such a PITA. I have Ren Wax, but I’d had trouble with it too. I’ve put it on knives, left them lay (out of the sheath) and later they rusted. I’ve tried putting it on thick, thin, buffing it shiny, not buffing it, everything I could think of and I’ve had problems. I was thinking of trying a Tuff Cloth, but can’t find a store that sells it, and I don’t want to pay high shipping on just one item. Plus I’ve heard that since it’s “dry”, it’s hard to tell when it runs out and needs reactivated.

I sometimes also use RIG, or Burt’s Beeswax. I don’t like “messy” products though like RIG or mineral oil which make dust stick. What I do like about mineral oil though is it’s food safe, easy to put on, and cheap.

I guess I’ll have to take my DFLE out and beat it on some wood to clean it up.

If anyone has any other rust inhibitor suggestions, please post them. And if anyone else wants to post their “family” group shots, you could do that too.
