Quick note on folders: I generally do not put anything on my personal folders unless they do not have a pocket clip. Then I just put a fob on them to make pulling them from my pocket easier. However, I have made several of the SnakeKnot lanyards like the Red&Black one in my original post for friends who will attach them to their folders whenever they are going to be doing anything out in the woods that might cause their prized$$$$$$$ folder to become dislodged. They will just affix the loop of the lanyard through the lanyard/thong hole of their knife and then clip off the Lobster clasp to a belt loop. They then clip the knife into their pocket as usual. This set up gives the advantage of added sucurity if you are going to be doing a lot of woodswalking, climbing, crawling, hacking your way through thick brush and so on. If the knife does get knocked out of your pocket, you won't lose it because it's still clipped to your belt loop.

Whenever you are done doing whatever the activity was that required the lanyard, just take it off and go back to using it as a key chain or put it away until you need it again.
