Sorry if it sounds like we're piling on, but my opinion is quite similar. For me there are two prices, what I'm willing to pay and what I'm willing to sell for. Lately, prices have fallen due to the economy and people wanting to generate some cash, but before that, my best example was INFIcoots (I know, you specified Scrap Yard and I could substitute SS4s, but the 'coot was a personal passion). I've paid up to $260 for them (with a sheath), but when they went above $300, I stopped buying. However, that price still wasn't high enough for me to sell.
Personally, I don't often spend much more than release prices unless a knife is limited production. Because I live fairly close to Knob Creek, I get outstanding access to retail Bussekin blades twice per year -- the only place they "bring it" more than KC is Blade. Even if I didn't have that, I'm only about 3-4 hours away from the Indy1500 show, which is 4 times a year. I spend way too much on knives.
