i wouldnt suggest beating on the res-c.
my DFLE's res-c has some tears in it,one about an inch long from having to strike the handle with a baton after getting the blade stuck in a log.
the res-c is really stuck between a rock and a hard place.its flush up against the tang and then the baton.it actually gets eaten up pretty quick in my experience.
i think the butt will take a little bit more abuse as i had my main problems on the side of the handle and the palm swell and this was all just one time.after that i never did it again.
your going to need something with an exposed tang if you want to start hammering.
