Ever since I saw that movie with Tommy Lee Jones I wanted a Tracker. Tops sells theirs for about $250.00 "large size" so I put off buying one.

I needed a project to fill my time waiting for the next Release from Scrap Yard so I looked around. All the "Kit Knives" I saw were nice, but so generic looking.

I have a few tools and my neighbor who's retired has ALL the marvelous tools ever needed said free access to his garage.
I decided after a few beers I would take him up on his offer and build my own knife!!

I have read all the how to books and thought I was ready.

I ordered the15 inch 1/4 thick chunk of 440A from Admiral Steel, and when it came I had all my ducks in a row.I drew my pattern on and started.

It took the better part of two months of free time to make it. I had it heat treated and nitro quenched to acheieve a RC-60-61 rating.
I could go on forever in detail explaining but a picture is worth at least a thousand words. So here it is....my Tracker.

It is a real handful. I used chunks of stabilized Spalted Maple for the scales. It is 12 inches overall with a 6 1/2 inch blade. Double Hollow grind. I used 15 x 3/32 s.s.pins to fasten them on. Red,and white spacers separate the Maple from the bar stock. It has some fairly simple file work on it to jazz it up. Never did it before and it is a real pain!
Hope you enjoyed looking at MY Tracker!
