I received this in a trade and I'm pleased with it. It's my first knife to own from Busse / SR / SY. It's the mudpuppy model.

I find the handle very comfortable and the knife balances in my hand well. The blade shape is a nice general purpose shape, good for EDC or the outdoors.

I haven't used it for much other than some minor food prep and some wood carving. I've spent most my time fixing the edge on it. For some reason this little knife came really thick, thicker at the edge than my axe or kuhkuri. I was curious if anyone more knowledgeable about this knife and it's intended application could tell me why it's so thick at the edge from factory.

Regardless, I hogged off some steel with my X Course DMT stone, then convexed the edge with 600 grit sandpaper, ran it over some 1200 grit for a minute or two, then applied a microbevel with a fine ceramic hone. It will whittle individual pieces of hair now, and carves wood very well, much like an Opinel or Mora with how well it bites into the wood and penetrates, pulling off long, thin curls with ease.

I recently acquired a Spyderco Aqua Salt and it's a close call as to which will be my go to fixed blade for the woods or EDC. For around town the Scrapyard is nice because the shorter length carries more easily, but the extra blade length and rust proof nature of H1 makes the Spyderco a great choice for the woods.

Here's some photos of the edge I put on my knife. It's uneven because on knives I intend to use roughly and less carefully I keep the tips thicker. There are also lots of scratches still visible. I typically don't polish my blades because that polish comes off as soon as I sharpen, so I kind of rushed it. Oh well, it cuts well now and that's all I needed.
