The secondary market serves many different purposes:

• It allows people to utilize the capitalist system and make a few bucks so that
  they can finance the next deal that comes along.
• It allows people who missed out, a chance to get in on things.
• It allows people who need quick bucks (in these trying times) the ability to
  maximize their return when it is most needed.
• And it allows others, newcomers like me, the ability to track down great older
  knives like the Camp Tramp that I bought just before Christmas.

It does have a kind of mercenary feel to it as it happened very quickly.
