I (almost) have to agree with Bruce on this - I agree in principle to some degree, but not in this case - and not because it was an LE with limited quantities like Renee mentioned...... read on.

If a knife is to be released and a "time frame" of availibility is given, I think the time frame should be met (see below).

But, here is the contradiction and why I think Dan should have released "LE's" differently:

If "LE" truly means limited "Quantities", then giving a "Time frame" doesn't work or apply.

If Dan / Scrap Yard are releasing a knife with Limited "Quantities", they should say that a given knife will ONLY be available while supplies last - hence, NOT available for a given "time frame" and more like the way past ordering was done. - Which unfortunately many of us were hoping to get away from the madness of "Rush" ordering.

While I can appreciate Vance's view, I again agree with Bruce, some of us are in tight financial situations right now and being given a small couple to few days notice for a need to quickly come up with and know you can afford a new knife purchase isn't always a realistic option. More power to those with more flexible purchasing options than I.

If Dan / Scrap Yard are going to offer knives to be ordered within a given time frame, I don't see or understand that the "Quantities" should be limited. I also assumed that whomever orders however many knives would have their knife orders filled if orders were placed within that window.

If windows of opportunity are going to be slammed shut without notice, what good is being given advance notice of being able to order for "X" number of days or weeks?

If Dan / Scrap Yard says the window will be open for 4-6 weeks then without notice "were to have" closed the window at 3 weeks, I don't think that would have been right....... But, that is NOT what happened.

I personally had to pass on the Muk - it wasn't quite what I had in mind for my Muk. But, "had" I wanted one and was trying to save for one and had the window shut on me prematurely based on what I "thought" was an understanding for how long I had, I might not be too thrilled. But, that is NOT what happened.



While Renee's statement of stopping orders due to "Limited Quantities" and being sold out doesn't fit with a time frame ordering approach, here is the other catch (Bruce and others):

Renee stated within minutes of the release notice: (#232694 - Thu Jan 22 2009 12:32 PM ): "We will keep this up for 4-6 weeks just like we did the SOD."

Apparently the Muk was available up to (or very close to) Feb. 19th - "Exactly" 4 weeks later.

So, while no "Last Call" notice was actually given, Dan / Scrap Yard "DID" full-fill their "4-6" week stated window of availibility.

With that window being met, I don't think ANY other explanation need be given.

"Last Call" notices would just be a courtesy if an option.


However..... I do feel that "Limited Quantity" releases should be CLEARLY stated to be "Limited Quantities".

I may have missed and somebody feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I never saw a post that mentioned limited quantity.

All I saw was: "This will be a one-time-only offer as the Limited Edition will not be offered again!"

To me and apparently Bruce as well, that "implies" (based on the time frame given) that as long as you get your orders in within 4 weeks, orders will be taken = Scrap Yard will make as many as ordered up to no less than 4 weeks and no more than 6 weeks. = NOT limited quantities.

I interpret "Limited Edition" in THIS case to mean: the Scrap Muk will not be released again (at least not in it's same configuration and via the store - Busse and kin have a history of holding back some inventory for shows and such.)


So, while the 4 weeks was met, it sounds like there are some "clarity" holes in the way the Muk was released and it just "happened" (??????) to work out about right (???????).
