The choil on a knife is used to make the owner realize that they wish they had a cutting edge that ran all the way to the scales on a futire knife.
Made me laugh, but it is kinda true. I love the SAR5 because there is NO choil.
The flip side of the argument is that a proper choil allows you to turn a big knife into a small knife and still retain the length for baton work or chopping. Many knives are just as comfortable in a choked up grip and Busse-kin is usually good about this.
For the record, in knives with a blade length of less than 4" I'm a choil hater; although I do like the semi-choil of the Mud Puppy.
