I can palm a basket ball and large hands on the DMDC I had which has a tight handle meant the choil grip was a handy thing for me but I prefer a large handle and no choil on my smaller game/food prep knives...and find them handy on the larger ones...the RMD which is a favourite... works fine with the choil but might be even better without it...the knife I am sure would be better without the small cosmetic choil is the SAR4...that blade is just begging to go straight to the handle...but my Jackhammer and SJTAC seem to work well with the choil and everything going on up from there....my bushcraft knives with no choil have taught me the blessing of a good comfortable handle with an edge running right to the handle...no question on the comfort front on these small 4 inch knives...you can do a lot more carving work with this design.

I guess Bussekin knives must have started out with big blades and incorporated them....then when going to smaller blades kept the choil for a "trademark" type look...
