The 240B is a great piece of kit. Reliable as they get. I'm not overly enthused about the SAW. I kind of wish the Army would have went the way of the M-60E4/Mk43 to fill that niche.
I've actually never fired a 240B - so I don't have any real comparison - but I think that the SAW in 7.62 would be pretty mean! I was issued the M249 for about 2 years and liked it overall. That show on Discovery "future weapons" showed the 7.62 SAW and it looked like it was performing well. That show also had the MLRS on there as a "future weapon" - I guess the munitions are constantly improving, but the firing piece hasn't changed for like 7 years or so since the M270A2's came out (I was an MLRS crewman for 3 years). Anyways, I don't always take "future weapons" to heart - but I did like the portion about the new SAW.
