If you are clearing a trail for long periods in the Jungle we used to use a sticky bandage and tape the Golok/Machete to our hand...it also protected your hand from thorns and barbs and from other nasties like hollow filament hairs on certain plants leaves which can itch and give infections...

I see no reason why the same technique would not work even if you are just doing garden duty...or searching for lost kit...nice find by the way <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
